Daisy Mountain Veterans Parade & Family Picnic

Saturday, November 10, 2012 _______________________________________________

Daisy Mountain Veterans is an alliance of the members of American Legion Post 128, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12031, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 128 – representatives of our nation’s largest organizations of veterans.

These organizations have long histories and extensive traditions of serving our communities, promoting Americanism, family values, youth programs, freedom, liberty, and much more. Members of the northern valley veteran organizations are highly motivated to celebrate properly the achievements and sacrifices of members of our Armed Forces with whom they, as veterans, share common experiences.

VFW meetings are held at 6:00 pm and the American Legion at 6:30 pm on the second Thursday of each month at the Outlets at Anthem, Suite 845. The American Legion Auxiliary meetings are held at 4:00 pm the second Monday of each month at the Outlets at Anthem, Suite 845.

Our mission is to honor, support and thank all who have served and are currently serving in our Military. We accomplish this by hosting Arizona’s largest Veterans Parade. The goal of the parade is to draw attention to the truth that freedom is not free and directly support Veterans who have protected those freedoms through service.

The Daisy Mountain Veterans Parade also seeks to advance education and inform the entire North Valley area about Veterans and their sacrifices. The non-political, patriotic event enhances the sense of community for all and fosters a life-long appreciation of all branches of the United States Military within the next generation.

The Memorial design is full of significance “as nothing is there by accident,” tells Renee Palmer-Jones, AVM artistic designer. The five pillars represent the five branches of the United States military. They are staggered in size, and the military seal placements on each pillar are based upon the Department of Defense prescribed precedence, ranging from the United States Army, the United States Marine Corp, the United States Navy, the United States Air Force, and the United States Coast Guard.

At precisely 11:11 a.m. on Veterans Day November 11, 2011, the day the Memorial was dedicated, the shadows of the Memorial pillars aligned perfectly to cast one, long shadow across the circle of pavers. That was what was supposed to happen; it was actually a cloudy day without the sun to cast a shadow. However, at the same time each year, the sunlight projects through the elliptical openings in the pillars pour onto the mosaic at the foot of the pillars. The sunlight cast through the elliptical openings becomes a circle that perfectly illuminates the mosaic of the Great Seal of the United States.... Donate to the Memorial. Donate to the Memorial
